FAQs

What is cold process soap?

Cold process is a traditional method of making soap by combining oils and an alkali (usually sodium hydroxide for bar soap), causing a chemical reaction called saponification. When saponification is complete, you are left with solid soap, with absolutely no alkali left. It’s how ancient civilizations made soap, and it is truly the most amazing process!

What do you mean by 100% natural?

I agonized for a long time over using the word “natural.” It’s not a regulated term, I hate green-washing, and really the word could mean anything you like. However, for me, “natural” means simple and free of industrial substances and synthetic fragrances. I make all my products from scratch, using plant oils, botanicals, essential oils, along with clays and salts that are found in nature. That said, I believe in science, so I won’t exclude certain ingredients if it means compromising anyone’s health or safety, including preservatives. But I try my best to keep things as uncomplicated as possible.

How long does your soap last?

Based on our tests, usually about a month for a single user. To extend the life of your soap, make sure to let it dry between uses, and keep it on a draining soap dish, away from any direct contact with water.

What is the shelf life of your products?

For best results, use our bar soap within six to 12 months. Because I only use botanicals, clay, and essential oils, the color and scents will fade over time — though the soap will be good to use indefinitely. Please store your soap in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. That will help!

For body butters and lip balms, a good rule of thumb is up to 12 months.

Does your soap cure eczema or psoriasis?

No. Legally, no soapmaker can make that claim. Whether or not a particular soap is suitable for people with sensitive skin conditions is very personal. While I do formulate my soap to be mild, gentle and nourishing, please make sure you do a skin patch test if you have any concerns.
